About the plane

BonAeroClub's Cessna 172 in flight

The plane is a well maintained Cessna 172 Skyhawk built in 1973, overhauled in 2006/2007. Over 30000 Cessna 172 “high wing” airplanes are in use all over the world by flight schools and private owners. The first one was built in 1957 and 50 years later the plane is still in production.

Its basic empty weight is 1400 pounds (635 kg) and the maximum weight is 2300 pounds (1045 kg). It can carry 4 people of average weight, including the pilot. The 4 cilinder Lycoming O-320 boxer engine (well known for its typical sound) gives a cruise speed of around 100 knots (185 km). The plane can stay airborne for about 5 hours. It is very reliable and easy to fly. The Cessna 172 is the most popular training aircraft, but also very suitable for short trips or sightseeing trips.
